    Hello Colleagues,

Sunday March 11th is the beginning of National Patient Safety Week!  We all know that our profession makes a difference in millions of lives every day.  I challenge each of you to do three things in honor of this week:

    1.  Submit your comments to CMS regarding the opportunity to modify the personnel regulations for CLIA.  This is SO important, it is one of the greatest opportunities to provide input into who analyzes human specimens since CLIA was passed by Congress in 1988 and CMS promulgated the rules in 1992.  Please go to the action center:  Action Center to submit your comments.  This is one of the most important things you can do right now to improve patient safety.  The deadline is Monday March 12th.  Please take care of this right after you read this message.

    2.  You can join the Patient Safety and Health Care Quality community.  This community provides information about latest trends, information we identify on non-ASCLS websites that impact patient safety with respect to medical laboratory science.  In addition to the information that is shared, after you join, you will have the opportunity to communicate with other passionate patient safety advocates to ask questions and identify methods to improve our practice and our laboratories.  This community is found on the list of communities.  All members are eligible to join.

    3.  You can talk with one non-laboratorian about how we as laboratory professionals improve the quality of patients lives by ensuring that we provide services that are safe, effective, efficient, timely, patient-centered and equitable.

Please celebrate how medical laboratory professionals are advocates for patient safety.
