    Hello Everyone,

I need help to find the latest published survey about the salaries of laboratory directors. Specifically, I would like to know what are the mean, median and high salaries for a laboratory director for an Independent diagnostic laboratory in the United States.

    Thank you so much.

    Kind Regards,
    Pankaj Sethi

I am also interested in this type of salary information. After all, is the compensation for the job worth the time, money, and effort required to obtain a PhD?

This is just one data point, but in our organization, the salary range for our PhD technical directors - chemistry and microbiology - is as follows.  It is based on local and regional salary surveys that are performed annually.  In looking ahead, it would be the same range used for a DCLS.  A candidate directly out of school would be paid at the minimum.  The midpoint is intended to be where someone "should" be at 7-8 years.

Every 2 years the ASCP does a wage survey for Laboratory Science careers. It can be found here:

    https://academic.oup.com/ajcp/article/151/1/29/5112880

In it there are are multiple tables and at least one that includes Laboratory Director. It's a great resource for salary negotiations and one that I include in my discussions with new Lab Techs.

Unfortunately this survey lacks actionable data for those in Adminidtratuve director roles or technical director roles like PhD directors

    Hello,

Do you have specific means/ranges by State?  Just met a phleb from N. Cali who earns $34/hr, MT/CLS ~$45-70+/hr, MT/MBA dept head at $239,000.

Back in 2012 at AACC I met UCLA folks who said the range was $42-57/hr for MT/CLSs and with my experience I could start at $57/hr as a bench tech!  They are state employees so it's public domain info.  That was 6 yrs ago so must be higher now.

CA has high COL but $$ to match.  Hawaii has high COL but half the $$.  We all work two jobs to make ends meet here.  CA's pay scale is the model to push for increases in HI so the more details we have the better to negotiate with.

    Mahalo,
