The ASCLS Developing Professional Forum (DPF) is actively recruiting 9 Developing Professional Members to join our forum as Councilors-at-Large. This position is a great introduction to taking on leadership roles within our society!

This position is for Developing Professional Members who are looking to get involved as a student, but may want more experience prior to taking on an executive committee role in the DPF. This opportunity exposes you to different assignments such as publishing articles in ASCLS Today, being a Labora-Story Blog contributor, a student representative on various committees, and other exciting experiences. This role allows students to voice concerns, as well as vote on student forum matters.

For Developing Professionals who are interested in professional development, this is a great opportunity for you! Spots are limited so apply at your earliest convenience!

The DPF board is happy to help you and if any should arise, please forward your questions to studentforumchair@gmail.com  or Jen Mehltretter, M.Ed at jenm@ascls.org

NEW ASCLS Developing Profession Forum Presents: Race to JAM

The developing professional forum announces their new event for 2023, ASCLS Race to JAM.

Preliminary rounds scheduled to begin April 2024.

The American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science Developing Professionals Forum (ASCLS DPF) would like to invite you and your fellow students to participate in the DPF's new event, “The ASCLS Race to JAM”. This is a national competition that will be conducted over Zoom. Teams of 4-5 players will compete in a bracket style trivia game for preliminary rounds where questions will be asked in all subject areas of Medical Laboratory Science. The final two teams will then be invited to the Joint Annual Meeting to battle it out in-person to claim first place. The Joint Annual Meeting (JAM) is a national conference where members of ASCLS and other laboratory organizations come together for more than 60 educational sessions, professional networking, and poster presentations. This event is a great opportunity for your students to network with current laboratory professionals and develop their leadership skills! Next year's JAM will be held June 7-11, 2024 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The team will consist of 4-5 ASCLS Developing Professional members with up to 2 alternate players and under the direct supervision of an ASCLS Professional or Emeritus member over numerous playing sessions.. Member status of all registrants will be verified prior to competition. Students will compete simultaneously by answering questions correctly in the different MLS subjects. Teams with high scores will advance to the next round of play until 2 teams remain. The final two teams that remain after preliminary play will be awarded funds to cover the cost of registration and at least $300 in travel reimbursement to attend JAM and compete for the championship in a live in-person game. The winning team will be recognized during the award ceremony at JAM.

To participate, each team must provide a room moderator and timekeeper who is either a professional or emeritus member of ASCLS. If a program has more than one team, those teams must compete in the same room and can utilize the same officials for the duration of that competition. Importantly, the appointed moderator’s role is to monitor students to prevent academic dishonesty and moderate the competition along with event officials. This is necessary to allow us to offer this competition nationally.

Please remember that ASCLS Developing Professional membership for students is required to participate. You may apply online at www.ascls.org before the start of competition, and membership will need to be verified one day prior to the start of the event.
