ASCLS is seeking volunteers to be considered for a Board-appointed nomination to the ASCP Board of Certification for two positions on the BOC Board of Governors as representatives of ASCLS. Terms for these positions are October 2018 – September 2021.

Nominees to the Board of Governors need to be actively engaged in the practice of laboratory medicine, education, or management. Note that travel is required to attend Board of Governor’s meetings.

Description
Identification of the ideal candidate to serve as a member of the Board of Governors (BOG) of the ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) assures the continued success and excellence of this organization. Candidates must be committed to carrying out the duties of their position that include the following: fulfillment of the BOC mission; providing fiscal oversight; defining and governing BOC activities; serving on committees and taskforces; providing reports as requested; participating in all meetings and conference calls; monitoring credential development and performance; and nominating qualified BOG members for awards.

The single nominee for each BOG position from sponsoring, collaborating and participating societies may have specific requirements, but will also share common attributes. These attributes include engagement in the practice of pathology, laboratory medicine or education related to these practices; Fellow or Member of a specific society; and certification by the BOC when applicable.

In addition, the ideal candidate possesses the following characteristics:
  • Is willing to advocate for the Board
  • Is a visionary
  • Is impartial and objective
  • Remains open-minded and listens to all viewpoints
  • Provides input on both sides of an issue
  • Is passionate about the profession and the importance of certification
  • Is collegial
  • Respects colleagues and their views
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding Board discussions
  • Brings personal interests and those of associated organizations, as well as expertise, to the Board, but recognizes primary obligations are as a steward of the profession and of the Board
  • Respects disagreement
  • Supports Board decisions
  • Displays integrity
