DAC Annual Meeting at JAM

Join the DAC during our annual business meeting. The DAC leadership strives to openly and transparently communicate with our membership regarding the work we are doing to promote DEIB efforts in ASCLS. During this meeting we will not only summarize our efforts in the year prior, but we hope we can hear from our members so we can prioritize the work for the year ahead. It is at this time too that we introduce new officers who will become part of the leadership of the DAC. If you can, please join us.

This event will be held during the ASCLS, AGT & SAFMLS Joint Annual Meeting, and virtually via Zoom.

Don't forget to look for an email from the DAC Community with the updated time and date.

DAC Movie Night

Join us for a celebration of diversity and inclusion with the Diversity Advocacy Council Movie Night! Every year we select a film that can allow us to explore the rich tapestry of human experiences, featuring stories of resilience, identity, and unity. From thought-provoking documentaries to heartwarming short-films, this event aims to foster meaningful conversations and deepen understanding of our diverse world. Come together, share perspectives, and embrace the beauty of our differences on screen and beyond during the "after movie chat."

Previous events include the screening of:

  • "Mixed Match" by Jeff Chiba Stearns.
  • "Neurodivergent" by Afton Quast Saler (including Q&A with the film director)

Let us gather virtually via Zoom to enjoy enriching films together.

The DAC Movie night is held every year around August/September on two separate dates, and it is free of charge.

Don't forget to look for an email update from the DAC Community with the updated time and date.

DAC Book Club

The DAC Book Club is a space to explore and share books that can help us grow our knowledge and appreciation for diverse perspectives. Uncomfortable, challenging, and real stories that can help us all move forward in our DEIB journey. This book club started in 2021 in alignment with the PRISM (Pride, Respect, Inclusion, Support, Momentum) event. We strive to provide a space for members of the ASCLS community to increase their understanding and leadership on DEIB through thoughtful discussion, honest curiosity, and an authentic desire for growth.

Previous years books include:

  • "Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents" by Isabel Wilkerson.
  • "Demanding More: Why Diversity and Inclusion Don't Happen and What You Can Do About it" by Sheree Atcheson
  • "Sitting Pretty: The View from My Ordinary Resilient Disabled Body" by Rebekah Taussig
  • "The Diversity Gap: Where Good Intentions Meet True Cultural Change" by Bethaney Wilkinson

This book club meets asynchronously using the BOOKCLUBS app. The new book for the year is revealed during the JAM DAC annual meeting and we encourage all to have read it my January in time for PRISM.

PRISM: Pride Respect Inculsion Support MomentumJoin the DAC during our annual celebration where we ignite discussions regarding diversity in the profession and the inequities in our healthcare system. The ASCLS Diversity Advocacy Council (DAC) invites you and all members of the laboratory profession to participate in PRISM: Pride · Respect · Inclusion · Support · Momentum, which debuted in January 2021. As leaders and members, we understand that the most uncomfortable conversations can be the most educational, productive, and inspiring.
