What is Medical Laboratory Science?

Medical Laboratory Science is the application of physical, chemical, and biological principles to the performance of laboratory procedures. Scientists perform complex testing on patient samples using sophisticated equipment. It is a discipline encompassing research, development, teaching, supervision, and performance of these procedures and services. Medical Laboratory Science is an independent profession which participates in interprofessional collaboration with other healthcare professionals to provide health services to the community.

What is ASCLS?

ASCLS is an inclusive, culturally relevant community of people acknowledging their differences and unique characteristics; it is an organization where all persons can engage and participate in a meaningful way empowering everyone to grow and learn.

Advocacy

Our primary goal is to advocate for our profession and our patients. We do this by representing the interests of the clinical laboratory, affiliated professions, and members of the Society in all government and other forums that affect these interests. We stay involved in national and state legislation and promote licensures for all medical laboratory professionals.

Education

We provide educational opportunities to students, future students, non-laboratory professionals and patients. We continually provide continuing education opportunities to current medical laboratory professionals on a bi-yearly basis.

Check out our event pages to see current continuing education opportunities.
